Long-Life Ballast Regulator Blades « MPI

MPI’s Long-Life Ballast Regulator Blades are manufactured in the U.S. using American steel with a unique chemistry and specific heat treat process. This high quality steel has an average through hardness of 500 Brinnell, providing outstanding abrasion resistance, while retaining its ductile properties, so it will not crack or break.

Blades for Wood Ties

Long-lasting tungsten carbide hard facing is applied in a strictly controlled, multiple-pass process to ensure even and consistent deposition of the tungsten carbide.

Blades for Concrete Ties

The leading edge, as well as the top and bottom wear edges, are all hard-faced.

These blades for concrete ties were installed on April 4, 2019.

After approximately 154,000 feet of track resurfacing, the blades show almost no wear during an inspection on May 16, 2019.

After approximately 311,000 feet of track resurfacing, the same blades show minimal wear during an inspection on June 26, 2019.
